About Us

GTR stands for ‘Greater Thameslink Railway’, and includes the Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express brands. GTR and Greater Thameslink Railway are trading names of Thameslink Southern Great Northern Limited (TSGN).

GTR moved into Public Ownership on 31st May 2026 under Department for Transport Operator (DfTO) which itself is wholly owned by the Secretary of State (“SoS”) for Transport and are committed to protect the future and deliver a more sustainable railway, in collaboration with other DfTO train operators and a supply chain who holds similar values.

We are the UK’s largest train operator in terms of passenger numbers carrying circa 19% of all UK passengers. Our estate consists of over 250 stations with 7500 staff.

Our Vision, Purpose & Strategy:

The Procurement Act (2023)

The Procurement Act (2023) came into force on the 24th February 2025 and replaced the Utilities Contracts Regulations 2016 (UCR16). GTR are bound by the Act, and so are suppliers who participate in our new procurements. Suppliers should familiarise themselves with the Act, and further details can be found here: The Procurement Act 2023

Supplier Qualification Requirements

If you supply goods, works or services under Railway Industry Commodity Classification List (RICCL) codes, or wish to do so, please note that GTR may use the Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS) as a ‘Qualifying Utilities Dynamic Market’ in accordance with the Utilities Contract Regulations (2016) (identified in notice 2025/S 000-007184 RISQS – Find a Tender) as a method of selecting pre-qualified bidders without placing a further ‘Find a Tender’ service call for competition.
